So, this morning, we exchanged our normal greetings: a “good morning,” a kiss, and a “how are you?”. After sharing that I had a little headache, Julienne asked if I drank too much wine. I was caught off guard. Why would she ask that? So, I replied that I had not. Then, a split second later, I realized that she was saying there was a lot of wind this morning. I quickly explained my mistake to her and agreed that there is a lot of wind this morning.
To the French person, the words for “wind” and “wine” are very different; but for beginners, mistakes like this are very common, especially since vowels sound different and ending consonants are often mute (not pronounced). The joys of learning a new language!
